CORNWALL, Ontario – The annual radiothon for the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation saw another great year of success bringing in $105,000.

This year’s goal was to raise enough money to buy a new waterproof fetal monitor for the pediatrics unit and bedside cardiac care units.

CCHF Executive Director Amy Gillespie credited community volunteers for helping make this year’s radiothon a success. She especially pointed to the help they received from the Cornwall Police, Cornwall Fire Service and RE/MAX, who had volunteers on site all day.

“I want to say thank you to our community,” said Gillespie. “Without our community we wouldn’t be here.”

In addition to having volunteers who were manning the phones, there was also the second annual Minute Games Fundraiser.

Eleven teams participated in five, one-minute games designed to test skills with bragging rights on the line. Each team had five members, with each member expected to raise at least $100 for the event.

“I’m so touched to report that the participating teams raised over $9,000 for that hour,” said Gillespie. “Last year they raised $8,000 during the Minute Games. What a testament to our wonderful community — and great to see people having fun together for a good cause!”

This year’s radiothon was not without its challenges however. A heavy windstorm over the past 24 hours had caused havoc with the radiothon phone lines. Gillespie encouraged anyone who had not been able to call-in to still try to reach out.

“Anyone who didn’t get through can still call tomorrow,” she said going on to explain how CCHF fundraising is an ongoing effort. “The radiothon doesn’t have to end today.”
