CORNWALL, Ontario – A scorching hot start to July couldn’t stop the Canada Day activities planned along the St. Lawrence this year.

With a humidex of 47, the heat was taken very seriously but the fun still goes on with the counties running activities for those who don’t mind the heat.

This year, close to one thousand people set up at Charlottenburgh park for beachside seats to the fireworks display, BBQing, and bouncy castles.

“We even got surprise cotton candy! anything that makes a party” explained Heather Taylor-Hanna, who organized the event at Charlottenburgh Park.

Long Sault was not as lucky as the lack of shade at the Arnold Bethune Park slowed their turn up.

“It started at 1 pm, it’s a little hot though so we haven’t had too many people out yet. The kids who have come do though, which is good,” said Emilie Lamarche who ran the bouncy castle station in Longsault.

Even Lamoureux park had its share of struggles with the heat.

“One girl was sick, and another fainted but it’s impressive because they just pushed through,” said David Runions, who announced the performers at the Bandshell.

They were still able to do the face painting, reptile show, and performances despite the heat.
