CORNWALL, Ontario – Halloween is right around the corner and Cornwall Seaway News wanted to find out which costumes are the hottest picks this year.

According to Dave Pettem, Manager of Spirit Halloween in Cornwall, Fortnite costumes are the top buy of the year — for children and adults.

“We’re having a hard time keeping them in stock,” said Pettem.

Fortnite is an online video game that was released in 2017 and has drawn in more than 125 million players since its inception. Some of the Fortnite costumes available at Spirit include Brite Bomber, Cuddle Team Leader and Black Knight.

Popular picks for adults also include anything superhero related, especially for men, who are drawn to the Black Panther and Venom outfits this year. Pettem added that adult couple and group costumes are always popular.

Pettem said that surprisingly Steampunk costumes have made a resurgence.

“The funny thing is, we’re selling this to an older crowd now too,” he said.

Pettem was also surprised by the popularity and quality of the Victorian Vampire section this year.

For children, princess character are popular amongst girls and creepy clowns amongst boys this year, but both are still not as widespread as the Fortnite craze.

Costumes resembling Indigenous Regalia were pulled off of the shelves this year as the store realizes that they are offensive.
