CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall native and former Ottawa Rough Rider Moe "the Toe" Racine has passed away at the age of 80.

“Dad was so proud to say he came from Belmont St and St. Lawrence High School,” said son Thom Racine. “My dad was a tuff son of a gun, he never complained about pain or hardships and in the end the complications from his diabetes just wore him down.”

Moe played for the Ottawa Rough Riders from 1958 to 1974 as an offensive lineman and placekicker, winning four Grey Cups with the team.

In 2014, Moe was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

“Condolences to the entire Racine family on the passing of an amazing man who enjoyed a life well lived! Moe “the Toe” Racine passed away today at the age of 80,” wrote Cornwall City Councillor David Murphy on Facebook. “When it comes to football in Cornwall (to borrow the phrase) Moe truly is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be!”

Moe holds the Ottawa Rough Riders record for most games played at 201, most playoff games played, 36, and most Grey Cup games played, five.

Moe graduated from St. Lawrence High School in Cornwall.
