CORNWALL, Ontario – Harold Murphy an outstanding goaltender with the Cornwall Royals from 1962-1967 passed away Wednesday.

The Cornwall native backstopped the Royals to two straight Central Junior Hockey League titles and helped take them to the Eastern Canada Memorial Cup quarter-final in 1967, losing a heart-breaking seventh game to Halifax Junior Canadiens. The next season with Murphy between the pipes, the Royals advanced to the Eastern semifinal, losing to a powerful Thetford Mines Canadiens club that touted a line of future NHLers Rejean Houle, Marc Tardiff and Gilbert Perreault.

In the 1966-67 season he posted a 2.54 goals against average, a CJHL record.

Signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Murphy played for Tulsa Oilers of the Central Professional Hockey League and Toledo Blades of the International Hockey League.

He was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
