Aline Diana Barney

BARNEY, Aline Diana – Aline Diana Barney passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at the Waterford Retirement Residence in Ottawa, Ontario. Aline was a very social and fun-loving person who cherished her family. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Born in Cornwall, Ontario in 1927 to Lucia Lacourse and Joseph Lavallee, Aline was one of eight siblings – survived by Rita (Mel – deceased) and predeceased by Henri (Marie), Florent, Fernande, Marie-Jeanne (Arthur), Émérentienne and Anthonio. Aline was married for 67 years to Gerald “Gerry” – deceased (2013). She is survived by four children – Suzanne (Ronnie), Michael (Elizabeth), Marc and Daniel (Suzanne). She is also survived by eight grandchildren – Christine, Rachel, Jason, Hillary, Christopher, Julie, Roxanne and Patrick, and 12 great-grandchildren. Aline, Gerry and the children moved from Cornwall to Ottawa in 1964 to essentially start a new life after many struggles in Cornwall after WWII. From hard work and support from family, Aline and Gerry succeeded. In retirement they enjoyed many trips, several winters in Florida and a cottage for 16 years on beautiful Lac Pémichangan where many family reunions and parties will always be remembered. Aline loved to dance and was always a sharp dresser. She was also a ‘fighter’ throughout her life with several health issues – but she persevered. Aline was clear-minded, joyful, energetic and a loving person to the end. Throughout her life, Aline drew strength from her strong spiritual connection and devotion. She passed-away peacefully knowing that she was going home to her God. We mourn that she is gone from us, but celebrate that she is at rest, without pain, and free from illness. But mostly we rejoice that she is now and forever with her God and joined by all who predeceased her. It will be a joyous celebration and gathering. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at McEVOY-SHIELDS FUNERAL HOME , 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, Ontario from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass followed by a reception will be held at Holy Cross Parish, 685 Walkley Road, Ottawa, Ontario on Wednesday, July 31st at 10 a.m. The LHIN palliative care staff and the Waterford care staff were incredibly attentive, thoughtful and compassionate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
