Angus Roderick MacDonald

1923 – 2020
At his residence on July 9, 2020, Angus Roderick MacDonald died peacefully surrounded by his loving wife June MacDonald and his children Rory, Leanne and Malcolm. Angus is predeceased by his parents Hugh R. MacDonald and Penlope “Lopie” McPhee; his sister Mary Jane (Mrs. Cormic McDonald); and his brothers Lindy and Duncan. He is survived by his sister Isobel (Mrs. Archibald McDonell). Angus was born at home on May 31st, 1923 and resided at his ancestral farm in St. Raphael’s his entire life. Angus was involved in farming a good part of his life and spent the later part of his career in construction and was an employee of the Raisin Region Conservation Authority. Angus took a natural interest in gardening, tractors, maple syrup, local history and studied the connections of the families of Glengarry in which he lived and served. He was an active parishioner at St. Raphael’s Parish and he attended many Highland Games, Williamstown Fairs, Glengarry Plowing Matches, St. Raphael’s Galarama’s and other local events during his wonderful life of 97 years. In his later years, Angus survived a battle with cancer and since that time was an avid supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life and attended the relay every year that he was able. Special thanks to Dr. Smar; personal support workers Amanda, Joanne and Elise; and to the many neighbors and friends who helped along the way. For those that cannot attend the funeral or be with us during this time, we ask that you raise a glass of your favorite beverage in dad’s honour. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Bishops House in St. Raphael’s or the Lung Health Program at Seaway Valley Health Centre, Cornwall. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Glengarry Funeral Home in Alexandria. Due to the circumstances, a private funeral service will be held at St. Raphael’s Church with interment following in the Parish Cemetery.  Online messages of condolence may be made in the obituary section of: www.glengarryfuneralhome.com
