WIERSMA, Barbara – Now in heaven with her Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. Mrs. Barbara (Deer) Wiersma at Woodland Villa, Long Sault, ON, on Thursday June 27, 2019, age 97. Born in Manchester, England. Beloved wife of the late Douwe (Donald) Wiersma. Loving mother of Paul (Ann); and cherished grandmother of Emily Wiersma. Predeceased by her parents Lieut. Herbert Edward Deer and Margaret Gibson. She attended Toronto Bible College from 1945-1949. In 1950 she went back to England to complete her studies as a Registered Nurse. Upon returning to Canada she continued her nursing career at the Newmarket General Hospital. She moved to Cornwall and worked at the Marlborough Nursing Home until retirement. Afterward she volunteered her time with the Cornwall General Hospital Auxiliary and a variety of other organizations. Barbara had the gift of hospitality and she enjoyed playing her violin for others. Visitation: Tuesday July 2nd from 7-9 PM and Wednesday July 3rd from 9-10:45 AM; followed by celebration of life at 11:00 AM in the chapel– all at the Wilson Funeral Home 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall. Interment to take place in Martins Anglican Cemetery, Newington, Ontario. If so desired contributions in her memory to the Gideons International in Canada would be appreciated by the family.
