Bruce Gillies

Gillies, William Bruce, Mar. 25, 1928- July 2, 2021.

Peacefully at Dundas Manor in his 94th year.  Beloved Uncle of Karen Maguire, (Sam) , great nieces Kristy (Aaron) & Lindsay, their children Connor, Avery, Ethan and Jackson, predeceased by his parents D.A. and Annie Gillies, his sister Amanda Lloyd, brother in law Clifford Lloyd.

Bruce lived his whole life in Finch until he moved to Garden Villa in 2018, with failing health he moved to Dundas Manor Jan. 2020 where he was well taken care of by staff and volunteers.

Bruce worked for C.P. Rail all his life starting at 17 as a telegraph operator, according to him he never forgot the codes. He loved all animals, especially dogs and his prize cow Mary. I remember one time I left my dog there came back to an empty house he had taken him to the Finch legion.

He went on many hunting trips but would never shoot at wildlife, he was the resident cook I was told. Snowmobiling on trails was another favourite past time of Bruce’s. Casino trips were frequent in his later years with life long friend and neighbour Lillian Droppo and Dalton Ouderkirk he claimed he was always winning but I never knew of anything big.
He cherished his lifelong friendship with his cousin Ila and husband Blaine. They were a big support to Bruce as he aged. No one could cut his hair every 5 weeks like Ila.

Like the song Frank Sinatra sang Uncle Bruce always did things “his way”

Rest In Peace, until we meet again.

At Bruce’s request cremation to take place with a Graveside service at a later date, Goldfield Cemetery.
Graveside service at a later date committal Goldfield Cemetery
