Christina Gallant
1 March, 1935 – 21 January, 2021.
Christina Gallant (DeMontigny) passed away peacefully on Thursday January 21, 2021. Our mother who was fiercely independent and true to form left us on her terms and looking her absolute best. Mom was one of 8 children. Born in Buckingham, Quebec where she loved her early years and loved living a few doors down from her aunt Mimi who was a positive influence in her young life she spoke often about the breakfasts they shared together. Our mother was heartbroken when she moved to Cornwall, Ontario. However, with each passing day our mother came to love the area, her friends, the familiarity and living so close to the St. Lawrence River. Summer time was her most favourite time of year as she took full advantage of fishing, and boating with her husband. You could always count on mom’s perch rolls or an amazing trout feast! In her last years, she looked forward to sitting on her balcony enjoying the sunshine, watching the daily activities and greeting familiar folks. Our mother was active in the community attending various activities, volunteering with the Royal Canadian Legion with her husband, attending the “Royals” hockey games, participating in activities in the park. In her later years, she enjoyed the ebb and flow of a quieter life. Mom also took comfort in knowing her last surviving sister (Jean) lived in the same building where they could keep an eye out for each other which was the case to the very end. Like many of our seniors and folks, living alone through Covid 19 it has been terribly hard and sadly for our mother television and phone calls became her entertainment. In lieu of flowers, cards, we ask that you extend a simple gesture and be kind to others and reach out to someone you have not called in a long time. Our mother will be missed by son Arthur (Rosemary), grandchildren Avia and Alana, great grandchildren Leia, Isabel (Izzy), son Richard (Robbin), grandchildren Rebecca, Ryan, Robert, great-grandchildren Sanders, Lawson, Nolan, daughter Linda (David) grandchild Sebby and her sister Jean ( friend Gary) Mom, we love you as high as the sky and as deep as the ocean! Cremation services entrusted to the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall. Rite of committal at a later date.
