Claude Dignard
1938-2020
Claude passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 21, 2020 at the age of 82 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Crysler Ontario and moved to Cornwall in 1950. He served Cornwall and the area as a successful licensed optician for more than 25 years at Claude Dignard Optician on Pitt Street. Claude always relished watching his beloved Cornwall Royals play at the Cornwall Civic Complex and he was often found at the now defunct Water Street arena on Thursday nights to cheer on the Colts. Claude could keep a group of people laughing for hours with his legendary storytelling. He always worked hard to provide for those he loved. During his long battle with an illness he spent the last seven years of his life receiving excellent care at St-Patrick’s home in Ottawa. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and management at the home. He is survived by his six children Marc, Joanne, Carolyn, Brian, Léo and Colin. He was also predeceased by his mother Éléonore Bruyère, his father Oscar Dignard, his brother Rosaire Dignard, his sisters Marie-Jeanne Lamesse and Thérèse Leroux. He was also predeceased by one grandchild and survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. A private service will take place on Monday October 26, 2020 and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa Foundation would be appreciated by the family. https://stpatsfoundation.ca/donate/ Arrangements entrusted to the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa. 613-288-2989.
