Dr. John Douglas Macaulay

Notice of Memorial Service to be held at 11 am Knox-St. Pauls, 800 Twelfth St. East, Cornwall Ontario May 4, 2024 for Dr. John Douglas Macaulay, B.A.,B.M.,B.Ch.,M.A., L.M.C.C., D.PATH,CRCPC,ECFMG. (June 1930-November 2023). All welcome.

 

Dr. Macaulay, Pathologist, diligently served a large geographic area centred in Cornwall since he immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1965. He finally retired from practise in 2012 aged 82. He and his late wife, Dr. Margaret Haf Macaulay, G.P. (July 1930-October 2022) were greatly esteemed and beloved and are now much missed by family and friends. Some of Dr. John’s accomplishments included:

Registered Medical Practitioner by General Medical Council London; Holt Fellowship in Pathology Liverpool University; College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Emeritus status; Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Specialist Certificate in General Pathology; Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists; qualifications in New York State as a Physician and a Laboratory Director in the following categories: Andrology, bacteriology, blood lead, blood pH and gases, Clinical Chemistry, Cytopathology, Diagnostic Immunology, Drug Analysis/Qualitative, Endocrinology, Ethrocyte Protoporphyrin, Hematology, Histopathology General, Immunohematology, Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Ther. Sub. Mon./Quant. Tox. Transfusion Services; Licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and the Medical Council of Canada; Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery from University of Oxford; Royal College of Physicians of London and The Royal College of Surgeons of England Diploma in Pathology; Licenced by the Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (USA); Member Canadian Association of Pathologists and Ontario Association of Pathologists; Life Member Ontario Medical Association; Member British Medical Association; Member American Society of Clinical Pathologists; Member International Association of Dermatopathologists; and Member and former President of the Cornwall Academy of Medicine as well as honourary Medical staff for the Cornwall Community Hospital.

Dr. John also had a myriad of other interests and did Military Service – RAMC – rank Lieutenant; was a long-time member of and did service as Commodore of the Stormont Yacht Club; held Memberships in the Ontario Maple Producer’s Association, and the Ontario Woodlot Association and was a loyal supporter of a myriad of worthwhile charities. Up until his final year he greatly relished his friends and discussions in the local PROBUS group and loved all the extended learning opportunities offered to Seniors by ENCORE. He also was a kind and considerate landlord much beloved by his many tenants whom he always considered as friends and family. His children Wil, Mary, Rob, Francie and families invite you to his celebration of life. Please stay after the service for a small reception to share your memories with us.
