Fernande Fobert (DeSerres)

C’est avec grande tristesse que nous vous avisons du décès de notre chère petite maman. Elle nous a quittés en toute douceur le 19 octobre 2021. Née le 19 septembre 1928 à Tingwick, Québec, elle est allée rejoindre son mari Arnold (Joe) (décédé le 8 avril 2020). Fernande was surrounded by her children whom she loved so much. Fernande’s pride and joy was her family. Fernande will be sadly missed and forever loved by her children Anne-Marie and Claude Poirier, Pierre and Jocelyn Fobert, Sylvie Mayer and Len Davis, Micheline and Randy Irving. Fernande was the loving mémère of Mélanie Mayer (Jason Shoot), Joël Mayer, Marie-Claude Poirier (Justin), Marc-André Poirier (Karina), Jennifer Fobert and Dawson Irving. Mémère had a special twinkle in her eye for great-grandsons Sullivan (Sully) Shoot and Tristan Cuerrier-Mayer. She is also survived by her sister Laure (late Raymond) Burelle and her brother Gaston (Thérèse) DeSerres. She was pre-deceased by her parents Médard and Dorila (Hinse) DeSerres, brother and sisters Fernand (Olive), Rose St-Pierre (Joseph), Lucie Renaud (Stan), Réjane Beauregard (Royal), Marie Labelle and son-in-law Danny Mayer. Fernande accomplished so much in her life. She loved reading, writing and politics. In her younger years she worked at the Coats Factory. While raising 4 children, she wrote and published the following: a television episode entitled « Marie-Louise Banville-Currier (1874-1965) – Recherche pour T-V Ontario – Conditions de travail des moulins de coton de Cornwall»; she collaborated in the writing of the book «From Royal Township to Industrial City», written by Elinor Kyte Senior for the City’s Bicentennial; elle a également collaborée à l’écriture du livre «Comme un Jour dans la nuit – Nativité de la Bienheureuse Vierge Marie (1887-1997)», dans le cadre du bicentenaire de la ville de Cornwall; elle a écrit le livre «Aperçu de la Francophonie de Cornwall par l’image» et elle a écrit un livre de poème «Si j’’osais». In grade 8, she won a poetry competition with her poem «Le départ du vieux poêle». In her 20s, Fernande was President of la JOC (Jeunesse Ouvrière Catholique). Fernande was a member of le Centre Charles-Emile Glaude,la Société Généalogique, les Dames de St-Anne, l’Age d’Or Nativité, la Société Historique and the Liberal Association, having a particular affection for Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau and the Honorable Lionel Chevrier. In 1989, she was awarded the President’s Outstanding Volunteer Award by the Liberal Party of Canada. Fernande était membre du Comité de parents lors de la création de l’École secondaire La Citadelle. Elle était membre du Conseil de vie française et l’ACFO. The family would like to thank the staff at the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge for taking such good care of our mom, especially in her final days.In keeping with Fernande’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at a later date. If so desired, contributions in her memory to the Alzheimer Association of Cornwall would be appreciated by the family.
