Frances McLean

29 January, 1933 – 21 June, 2021

Your Hug Meant the World Nobody else held me so tight Or made me feel so right No one’s eyes shined so bright with love As my mom, who is now high above.
– Tamsen Butler

The world lost a beloved mother, Fran McLean, on June 21, 2021. Fran battled cancer, but it never stopped her from giving out the best hugs. Fran died in her home surrounded by her children, Sally Munroe (late Don), Tom McLean, and Nancy Ekstrom (Rob). Fran was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 29, 1933 (88). Fran is predeceased by her beloved husband Bill McLean and her parents; Mabel Doak and Albert Brereton. Fran started her career as a primary school teacher and with much dedication and passion advanced to become the Superintendant of Education for the Cochrane/Iroquois Board of Education in Ontario. She was an active member of every community she lived in throughout her life, enjoying musical pastimes and was active in the church and hospital auxiliary. Despite her hectic schedule, family and friends were Fran’s passion and delight. Fran is survived by her three children, and 8 grandchildren; Jamie Bennett (Jenn), Chris Bennett (Kaila), Amie Nielson (Ryan), Robb Munroe (Shanley), Jenna Shepherd (Dan), Jana Hall (Shaun), Calin Ekstrom (Janelle), Teah Ekstrom; and 15 great grandchildren. Fran is survived by her brother David Brereton (Patty) and sisters Faye Goodwin (Bob) and Gerry Danforth and will be sorely missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members who knew her as a kind and loving soul who brought light to everyone’s day. Fran requested to be buried in Goderich next to her cherished husband Bill. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days (Dr. Menon and the care team at Bayshore). For those who have known Fran in her fruitful journey with us, her memorial service and internment are being planned for this fall in Goderich Ontario. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice can be sent to John M Sullivan Funeral Home in Cornwall, Ontario.  Online messages of condolence may be made at www.mjohnsullivanfuneralhome.com
