George Arthur Rodney
We all know that cancer is a terrible disease. It ended my life on July 20, 2023. I wanted to tell my own life story, and being an independent cuss, I decided to write my own obituary. I was the eldest child of George and June Rodney, big brother to Bill (Karen) and Bev. Born in Smiths Falls, my formative years were spent in Cornwall, where I played hockey for the Royals before heading off to university in Windsor.
I got married going into my last undergraduate year of a degree in history, and 10 years later we welcomed our son Mike into our lives. I’ve always thought that being part of my son’s life was the biggest accomplishment of my entire existence. I leave knowing full well that Mike is a fine man and will be alright, and I want the world to know how much I loved my son.
I have always been a people person, so some sort of sales or customer service career was in the making. I spent most of my life working with people throughout the main cities in Ontario, with a brief four year stint in Alberta. Always a team player, I lived by the motto “A good deal for you is a good deal for us”.
My many relocations have blessed me with many dear friends all over the country. I’ve enjoyed travelling extensively, hanging out with friends, and enjoying each others’ company. Over the years, a select few have played a particularly special role; they know that I would do anything for them, and they have definitely made my life fuller.
A special thank you to Dr. Busca, Dr. Goindi, Megan Jarvo, and all of the staff at both the Ottawa General and the Cornwall Community Hospitals.
“Remember me, in your hearts, your thoughts, and your memories of the times we laughed and spent together.”
A gathering to celebrate George’s life will take place on Saturday July 22nd, from 2-4pm at the Royal Canadian Air Force Association (“the Wing”) at 240 Water St W in Cornwall, ON.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in George’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, or Meals on Wheels to which George was a dedicated volunteer.
