BRYAN, Gordon – Reverend Gordon Bryan, peacefully at Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long Term Care on Sunday July 21, 2019 at the age of 84 years. Ordained in 1976 as the first permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall, Gord served faithfully in a number of parishes for over 40 years. His vocation took him many directions, including the position as Director of the Diocesan Centre, appointment as Diocesan Bursar, and coordinator of the diocesan deacon formation program. More recently, Pope Francis recognized Gord’s dedication with the presentation of a Pontifical Award. Equally active and committed to the community, he was instrumental in the creation of the Children’s Treatment Centre, and involved with other organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, Children’s Aid Society, St. Joseph’s Villa, Meals on Wheels and the St. Vincent de Paul Society to name but a few. At one point he also relocated his family to Zambia for a year to teach in the seminary. In 1975, Gord was recognized as Cornwall’s Citizen of the year. A faithful husband for over 62 years, he is now gone to join his beloved wife, the late Francoise (née Martin) Bryan. Loving father of Gordon R. Bryan (Joanne), Nancy Dupuis (D’Arcy), Joanne Bryan-Tyrell (Gary), Maureen Bryan (René Béland), and Paul Bryan (Erica). Cherished grandfather Marie France, Anna, Alexandra, Tarra, Connor, Marie-Eve, Andréanne, Amélie, and the late Bryanne; and 6 great-grandchildren. Loved son of the late Edward and Kathleen (née Legroulx) Bryan. Dear brother of Marguerite Hunter (Paul), Michael Bryan (Judy), and the late Ted Bryan. There will be no visitation. The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell will be celebrated in St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, 434 Second Street, West, Cornwall on Friday July 26, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Rite of Committal in Notre Dame Cemetery, Cornwall. If so desired, contributions in his memory to the Children’s Treatment Centre would be appreciated by the family.
