Helen Haineault (Lavoie)

1923 – 2021

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Helen, beloved wife of Guy for 67 years, wonderful Mom and cherished Grandma. Helen passed away peacefully in her home on May 11, 2021. Helen was born to Yvonne and Emereal Lavoie in Suffield, Alberta. As one of thirteen children, she was raised in a home filled with love, laughter and music. Helen’s piano playing formed the backdrop to many family gatherings and sing-a-longs. In 1946, Helen came east to Cornwall to visit her Mom, brothers Royal and Albert and sister, Theresa. There she met Guy, married in 1953, and later moved to Ile Perrot, Quebec where they raised their three daughters. In the 1970s and onward, the family cottage in Riviere Beaudette became a special gathering place with many happy memories of visits with both Helen and Guy’s extended families. A move to Long Sault during the 1980s set the stage for Helen’s continued musical talents as piano player with the Friendly Circle Seniors Club choir, entertaining at seniors homes all over Cornwall. Helen was a kind and caring person and a devout Catholic. She always took the time to listen and lend a hand, and was very special to her family and friends. She was a creative and uniquely talented woman with many hobbies and interests including sewing, furniture-building, oil painting and playing Scrabble and Bridge. Helen leaves behind her loving husband, Guy, daughters, Denise (Paul), Lynn (David) and Diane (Moe), her grandchildren, David, Laura, Andrew, Stephen, Daniel, Nicole and Hannah, and her only surviving sibling, Sister Rita. She’ll also be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid restrictions, an outdoor service for the immediate family will be held in the coming weeks at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.brownleefuneralhomes.com.
