October 1st, 1953 – January 27th, 2023

Ian Clarke, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023, at Providence Care Hospital. Ian was born October 1, 1953, to Marian Rose Clarke (nee Hamnett) and James Raymond Clarke in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, the oldest of 6 siblings Raymond Gordon, Roy, Megan, Brian, and Murray. He was raised in Cornwall, Ontario. Ian joined the military in 1974, where he trained to be a medic and a paratrooper until 1984. Ian is remembered as a devoted family man. Ian met his wife Linda Wakelin in 1979 at CFB Kingston, and they were married December 13, 1980, for 42 wonderful years. Ian was the proud Father of Bec Clarke, Wesley Clarke (Laura McGregor) and Deborah Clarke (Travis McShane). He was the proud Grandpa of his Grandson Tristan Clarke McShane. Ian loved his motorcycle and taking long vacations with Linda. They saw Cape Breton, Florida, Tennessee and many places in between on the bike. Together they completed Deal’s Gap on multiple occasions and attended Americade annually. Every summer Ian spent countless hours in his garden, growing vegetables that he shared with family and friends. Ian enjoyed darts and taught all his children to play. Ian was a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan, avid Blue Jays fan and lover of Canadian Hockey. Ian enjoyed nature and would spend hours looking for and documenting birds in various places. Ian made cherished memories with his children; leading a beaver troop; attending, coaching, and officiating sports, assisting with camping trips and other activities. In recent years he volunteered with The Seeley’s Bay Legion Youth Darts team and Co-Captained the Going Deep ball team with Bec and Wesley. Ian will leave a lasting impact on many people he met on his numerous journeys. Ian is remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, uncle, brother, grandfather and friend. Family and friends will gather for an Interment service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vincent Massey Dr., Cornwall. on June 24, 2023, at 11 am. Reception to follow at The Royal Canadian Legion 297 Cornwall.
