James Bell
1931 – 2021
Captain James (Jim) Bell of Long Sault, Retired Pilot , Great Lakes Pilotage Authority, passed away after a brief illness, on September 9, 2021. Born on October 7, 1931. Jim was the only child of Isabelle Bell, and grew up in Aultsville, Ontario. His love for life on the water, began early, when he started working on the ships in his late teens. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Barbara. Loving and proud father of Shari Smelko (Mark) of Ingleside. He leaves behind two extremely special grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Scotti and Carli Smelko. Although only a short stay, at the Cornwall Community Hospital, we are grateful for the excellent care he received by the nursing staff and doctors. We would also like to thank Patrick Campeau, of Nurse Next Door, for arranging wonderful care for Jim, during the week before he went to hospital. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brownlee Funeral Home, MacDougall Chapel Ingleside. Donations in his memory may be made to CHEO or Carefor Cornwall Hospice. Messages of condolence may be left at www.brownleefuneralhome.com.
