Janette Amelia Lapointe
4 December, 1932 – 28 August, 2020
Lapointe, Janette Amelia (Gagne) — born December 4, 1932 in Cornwall passed from this earthly world on August 28, 2020 due to natural causes at the age of 87, while being cared for with dignity and kindness at St. Joseph’s Villa of Cornwall.
Janette grew up in Cornwall among a loving family and after graduating from CCVS High School, she worked several clerical positions and became the second female insurance adjuster in Ontario. Later, she became the Manager of the Administrative Support Department at St. Lawrence Seaway Authority in Cornwall, until her retirement in 1992.
She was a gifted seamstress, a wonderful cook and always an avid reader of all genres but especially of World War II history. She was involved in several Glenn Production plays and later enjoyed the Senior Center Clubs as an active member of the Choir, the Dance Company and Quilting and Painting Clubs. She found pleasure in a Thursday game of Mahjong and was such a trivia buff, the local radio station would restrict her from calling in for 30-day periods, since she won too often. She enjoyed volunteering at the front desk of the Senior Center, or at the Library Book Sales Table, and of course at the Agape Center preparing and serving the annual Christmas meal. She was a bright light to her friends and family who enjoyed a wonderful joke or story from her great sense of humor and wit.
Predeceased by her beloved son Gilles Gauthier, her parents Julia and Alex Gagne and siblings Juliette, Yvette, Laurette, Registre and Annette and husband Roger Lapointe. Survived by her daughters Rachel Holden (Dr. David Holden) of Oklahoma City, OK and Liette Bagwell of Atlanta, GA. Proud grandmother to John David Holden of Oklahoma, Ashley Bagwell of Atlanta, Dr. Thomas Holden of Philadelphia, Zack Gauthier, Blake Bagwell of Chicago, Emilie Gauthier, 2 great grandchildren Gwen Holden, Maia Holden and another just about to arrive and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 and cross border restrictions, there will not be a Celebration of Life at this time.
The family requests, if you are so inclined, that a memorial contribution be made to St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre at 14 York Street Cornwall, Ontario K6 J 5T2 or Chartwell McConnell Manor at 801 4th Street East Cornwall, Ontario K6H 7M8. Special thanks go to niece Francine DesChamps, granddaughter Emilie Gauthier, dear friend Rachel Lazette, friends and neighbors Rebecca Ferguson and Brenda Cholette.
With great love and affection, and with the comfort of lovely memories, we mourn and will miss this vibrant, intelligent, beautiful woman. Cremation services entrusted to the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall. Rite of Committal at a later date.
