John Firn

FIRN, John – John Ronald Firn passed away suddenly on Thursday September 19, 2019 at the age of 77.  John spent his entire adult life in education as Dean of English at St. Joe’s Secondary School, previously at CCVS and prior to that at Deep River Secondary School. He had a passion for many things but most especially his family that he was eternally proud of. He had a love of teaching, reading copious works of literature, acting in theatre groups, (most famously, his role in a local production of Oklahoma), coaching basketball and umpiring softball, trying to play golf, frequenting the casino, his many loyal friends and Thursdays at The Glengarrian. Beloved husband of the late Carol Firn (née Linscott) and loved companion of Nicole Brannon Werve. Always extremely proud father of Heather (Chris Gardiner) of Ottawa and Dr. Jennifer (Richard Unwin) of Brisbane Australia. He’ll be missed by his special grandson Alex Gardiner. Predeceased by his parents Ray and Muriel Firn (Castleman).  Always loved older big brother of Karen Wooding (Bob Petry) and Uncle John to Matt (Andrea), Chris and Jessica (Mitchell).  There will be no visitation.  Funeral service in celebration of his life will be held in the chapel of the Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall on Saturday October 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM.  If so desired contributions in his memory to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute ( www.ottawaheart.ca ) would be appreciated by the family.  Online messages of condolence may be made in the obituary section of www.wilsonfuneralhome.ca
