John “Sonny” Petrie

Peacefully, surrounded by family, John (Sonny) McKay Petrie of Bainsville, ON passed away on January 24, 2020 at the Cornwall Community Hospital. In his 90th year he is survived by his loving wife Agnes M. Petrie (nee MacDonald) of 67 years. Sonny grew up on the family farm with a love of the land; he was a hunter and fisherman, an early conservationist, a carpenter who loved working with his hands. He was an innovator, always interested new ideas and trends, a great story teller, community minded citizen, and a good neighbour and host. Sonny enjoyed the cottage and spending time on Lake St. Francis. Lifelong resident of Curry Hill, Sonny loved his walks in the woods; it was a spiritual experience for him when he was one with nature.
Dad of three children; Dale Petrie, Alan Petrie, Dawn (Petrie) Reynolds (Marty).  Grandfather to: Alison Kalani (Amir) (Colorado), Patricia Fowler (Kyle) (Aurora) , Alexx Petrie (St. Catharines), Mackenzie and Mackayla Petrie ( Bainsville), Taylor and Nate Reynolds(Victoria).  Great Grandfather to: Natalie and Adalyn Fowler, and Cameron and Leo Kalani.  Loving Daughter-in-laws: Heather Petrie and Lynda Petrie And many nieces and nephew.
As per Sonny’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral.
Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 46 Oak Street, Lancaster, Ontario (613-347-3609). As expressions of sympathy Memorial Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. As a Memorial to Sonny a tree will be planted in a memory woods. A tree grows-memories live.
