Kerry Maclam

1960 – 2022

Kerry Lenard Maclam began his journey of life June 21, 1960 in Thunder Bay and passed away peacefully with his beloved children at his side January 21, 2022 at the age of 61 in Ottawa. Raised with love by parents Marie Sereda and Mel Thompson, Dad grew up alongside his brothers. He often spoke with fondness of time spent at the cottage and fishing. His brothers held a special place in his heart always. Dad spent the early 80s working at Campbell Red Lake Mine, then sold cars at Walkley Nissan until 1990. Since then, he battled through multiple health conditions with a brave face and a positive attitude. Our father was lucky enough to find love twice, creating a “clan” of 7 kids. These kids became the greatest joy and greatest accomplishment of his life. Bonny and David blessed dad in his first marriage (to Glenda Wade). After falling in love again with Rita (Leroux) along came Jonathan, Lisa, Justin, Sara and Jamie. There were countless pets along the way as well that he pretended not to love. Dad is survived by his parents Mel Thompson and Marie Sereda, brothers Donald Maclam, Robert Maclam (Sue), Frank Thompson (Jackie) and Kevin Thompson. He will be forever missed by his loving children Bonny Maclam (A.J.), David Maclam, Jonathan Maclam (Catherine), Lisa Grundy (Jonny), Justin Maclam (Lisa), Sara Maclam (Alec) and Jamie Maclam (Kim). His legacy will be honored forever by his grandchildren Emma Rose, Jade, Mikayla and Cadence; Taylor, Kayja and Molly; Riley-Ayn, Jackson and Victoria; Austin and Aiden; and our newest addition Ivan Kerry. Dad was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Amelia. Our father was a simple man who loved simple pleasures. He was happiest sitting with a cup of tea or french vanilla in one hand and a cigarette in the other – even better if it was storming outside. He enjoyed canasta, Scrabble, online poker, horseshoes, scratch tickets, Joe Rogan podcasts and adding to his beloved collection of teapots. He loved to cheer on (or curse out) the Sens, and he could often be found trading stories with his longtime friend Hans Bakker. His most recent passion was refurbishing his 1961 International pickup with the help of his kids. He loved to tell a story – but even more he loved to listen. Above all, Dad cherished nothing more than family. Growing up surrounded by his siblings then surrounded in love by his own children and grandchildren, family was everything. We could always depend on a solid hug or pat on the back, and Poppy’s infamous candy drawer. We would like to send sincere gratitude to the team at Winchester District Memorial dialysis unit for many years of care and grace. To the Ottawa General ICU, especially Wanda and Amy, we thank you for your tenderness and patience in his final days. Also to his dedicated daughter Lisa Grundy – you ensured Dad left this world with dignity and comfort…thank you is simply not good enough. We will miss hearing “love you Sweetie” or “love you Bud” at the end of every phone call. We will miss being able to share our accomplishments, dreams and defeats. We will miss having you unwaveringly in our corner no matter what…but we know that will continue from beyond. Dad, to say you will be missed is an understatement. Thank you for the love. Thank you for the guidance. Thank you for raising us with your iron fist and generous heart. We promise to honor you by carrying on your values: Respect-Efficiency-Kindness. We will raise your grandchildren and great grandchildren to know you and to embody your strength, generosity and love. Your legacy will live on. We promise: this clan WILL “Kerry on”. A small family service has taken place as per Dad’s wishes. In lieu of flowers the family asks for a donation to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital. Online messages of condolence may be made in the obituary section of: www.brownleefuneralhomes.com
