MacDonald (MacDonell)

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly loved mother and grandmother. Shirley Theresa MacDonald (nee MacDonell), of Lancaster, age 91 years, in Cornwall on Friday, May 3, 2019. Devoted wife of the late Lloyd James MacDonald of Lancaster. Cherished mother of Marilyn (deceased), Garry, and Donna (John Kealey). Greatly loved grandmother of John Martin Kealey. Predeceased by her parents, Dan R. and Ellen MacDonell of Williamstown, her dear sisters Anna MacDonald and Jean Croll, and her brothers George, Duncan, Marlen, James, Gordon, Donald, and Colin. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whose lives she followed with interest and affection, and a circle of friends who meant so much to her. Shirley’s life was deeply grounded in her community. She was a founding member of and active volunteer for the Lancaster Meals on Wheels. She was a strong supporter of foster parenting and never forgot the children she lovingly nurtured as they awaited permanent adoption. She had an abiding faith in God, and in her earlier years volunteered in many activities in support of her church. She embraced life with courage and optimism, and leaves us with warm and loving memories. Relatives and friends may call at the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 46 Oak St. Lancaster (613-347-3629) on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 9 am until 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Williamstown, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 11 am. Friends and family are invited to gather for coffee and refreshments at St. Mary’s Centre following the Funeral. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to Hospice Cornwall, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. Meg Hagarty and the amazing staff at Cornwall Hospice and at McConnell Manor. As a Memorial to Shirley a tree will be planted in a Memory Woods.
