Marie Galarneau
GALARNEAU, Marie (née Ferguson) – Marie Galarneau passed away peacefully, on January 13, 2020, at Carefor Hospice Cornwall. Beloved mother of Debra Galarneau (Phil DeSerres), Diane Cumming (Jack), Marybelle Galarneau (Pierre Lebel), Morris Galarneau (Laura). Beloved sister of Barbara Mathieson and Frank Ferguson. Darling grandmother of John McLeister (Melanie Delorme), Margaret MacLeod (Glen), Gregory Cumming (Joanne Belanger), Erica Shearer (Tom), Colleen Cumming (Katrina Neufeld), Avery Merkley, Tristan Merkley (Christina Wong), Alex Galarneau. Dear great-grandmother of Rylan, Cora, and Lewis MacLeod; Liam and Lily Cumming; Nolan and Amelia McLeister; Corbin, Blake, and Finley Shearer. Dear aunt of Jason and Scott Mathieson, and of Colleen, Kathleen, and Eileen Shea. Predeceased by her husband, Henry Galarneau; partner, Al McMullen; sister Doris Shea; two infant sons; nephews Larry Shea Jr., Mark Mathieson, Terry Ferguson, and niece Cindy Ferguson. Daughter of the late Zeta (Donovan) and the late Morris Ferguson of Mallorytown and Brockville. Marie was a wonderful homemaker in South Lancaster for many years, later became a Registered Nursing Assistant who worked in hospitals and nursing homes. After retiring from health care, she continued to work for several years as a great cook. Marie’s great warmth, sense of humour and kindness put people at ease. She was inclusive long before that word was applied to people. Friends and neighbours gathered around her for singing, dancing, and card games. Her door was always open for a visit and a cup of tea. An avid reader, she especially enjoyed a good mystery. She was the Scrabble queen and the Jeopardy armchair champ. She loved nature, flowers and animals, especially his royal majesty Max, her cat. Her love of the outdoors led to many adventures with the little ones, fun at the beach, treks through the fields and bush. She was always ready to play board games with them and taught them card games too. They all adored Nanny. In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or service. Contributions to Carefor Hospice Cornwall, or to any charity dear to you, would be appreciated by the family.
