Marie McMonagle (Town)

McMONAGLE, Marie – Passed away peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the age of 84 years. Marie McMonagle (nee Town) of Ingleside and formerly Berwick. Beloved wife of the late Dalton McMonagle. Loved mother of Diane Glass (Mike) of Massachusetts, Allan McMonagle (Joanne) of Alberta, the late Connie Markell (Tracy) of Morrisburg and the late Brian McMonagle (Gloria of Ingleside). Predeceased by her parents Bertrum and Gladys Town of Brighton, brothers Herbert and Lional (Linda), and sister Ellen Trites. Dear sister of surviving siblings Eva Goddard of Burlington and Margaret Reimann (Jack) of Bellville. She will be sadly missed by 10 grandchildren Lindsey, Riley, Tonya, Andrew, Matthew, Sarah, Ashlie, Chad, Ryan and Chris, 4 great grandchildren and her friends and neighbors. She left home which was a very small farm at 17 with $15 in her pocket to start working her way through nursing school when practical experience ruled the day. She graduated in 1956 from Brockville Hospital which partnered with Ottawa Civic Hospital and worked at Winchester Hospital for 38 years while also working on the farm in Berwick with Dalton and raising 4 children. Clearly a multitasker as all farmer’s wives had to be. Would sometimes get stuck in the snow on a winter night coming home from work and have to walk home in a snowmobile suit if Dalton could not get to her with a tractor and snow plow blade. She never forgot a patient and with her passing goes a lot of knowledge of local family history. She loved nursing and always stayed current with medical advancements even in retirement. Doctors at Winchester Hospital knew that when Marie said they were needed, they had better attend to the patient quickly. Pastor Stephen King officiating at Goldfield Cemetery in Finch at 1pm, Thursday, August 6th. In lieu of flowers as expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Winchester Hospital, Cornwall Community Hospital, or the Heart Institute in Ottawa would be appreciated by the family.
