Myles Lynch

Saturday, September 13th, 1997 Friday, December 31st, 2021.
Myles Willard Lynch, born Sept. 13, 1997 passed away in the early morning hours of December 31, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at home. Diagnosed at one month of age with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease which limited his lung function but not his zest for life. Despite facing these many health challenges Myles always remained well humoured, witty and intelligent and made lasting friendships easily.
Myles pushed the boundaries of life, he lived longer than any estimate. Between hospital admissions at CHEO, his second home, he would ski with an oxygen tank in his backpack, went to school dances and graduation proms. He drove across Canada to British Columbia to attend a cousin’s wedding just four months after becoming the first Canadian to survive three double lung transplants, occurring on; October 10, 2014, February 21, 2017, and Apri 21, (Easter) 2019.
He had the mental stamina and spiritual strength to pull through difficulties with a smile. At a young age he composed his own songs on the piano and his enthusiasm for music and lyrics continued throughout his life. One of his most proud moments was carrying the Pan American Games Torch to SickKids Hospital in Toronto in 2015. It was televised and was also featured in a series of SickKids commercials along with other video clips taken by him jogging along the St. Lawrence River. His smile captured everyone’s heart.
A keen traveller and video recorder, he produced his own travelog shown at a local theatre with proceeds going towards Organ Transplant advocacy. He lived a life maximized with love and “Joie de vivre” experiences. In his last podcast, his parting words to the audience were “Live it Up”.
Myles is survived by his beloved parents; Bernard and Linda Lynch (née Vander Wielen) of St. Andrew’s West, his loving sister; Jillian Lynch (Bruce Gao), his cherished grandmother; Joanna (late Antoon) Vander Wielen (née Duighuisen) of Maxville, aunts and uncles from the Vander Wielen family; Adrian (Meg) of Lindsay, Hubert (Linda), Frank (Chantal) and Anthony (Jessica) all of Maxville, Diana Legault (Alain), Marian MacLellan (Rob) and Paul (Peggy) all of Moose Creek, aunts and uncles from the Lynch family; Catherine Lynch (Peter Gibson) of Orangeville, Brian (Kathy), Leonard (Joan) both of Saint John, New Brunswick, Gerald of Vancouver, British Columbia, Phillip (Mary) of Rothesay, New Brunswick and Michael (Kathleen) of Calgary, Alberta. Myles will be sadly missed by many cousins from the Lynch and Vander Wielen families.
Myles appreciated all the beautiful people who visited, reached out by video call, phone or text in his final hours. He touched many people with his “ZEST” for life, always encouraging his many friends to have real conversations about life and their legacy and living life to the max. His last words referring to his “Best Friend” Clinton Eavers. Myles believed that your impact extends beyond the years of your life through organ donation. He made great efforts to bring awareness to this cause through speeches, visits to schools and petitions. After many deep conversations with his sister, Myles decided to contribute to medical research by donating his body to the University of Toronto in the Department of anatomical research for medical science.
The family and Myles would like to thank everyone in the medical field who accompanied Myles through his life journey. Because of COVID restrictions a private Memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Andrews West, Ontario.
