Peter Jocko

20 January, 1938 – 9 September, 2020

Peter Jocko, 83, passed away peacefully in his daughter, Odette’s home surrounded by his family and his lovely God daughter, Marie Jackson on September 9th, 2020.

Peter was born at home on Cornwall Island, Akwesasne, on January 20, 1938. His parents were the late Mary Thompson Jocko and Louis Jocko. Part of a large family, he is survived by his sister, Wilma (Paul) Angus and his brother, Dennis (Jean Louise). He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy (Art Kennedy), Viola, and his brothers Albert (Joyce), Norman, Angus (Mae), and Philip (Joyce). He has many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 1955 Peter married Emily Garrow and had two children, Josephine (Joel Sanders) and Peter Grayson Jocko (deceased). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and soon to be 5 great great grandchildren. During his last year he spent most of his time with his great great grandson Jackson Paul and his last wish was to watch him run like he himself had always loved as a child.

Peter was also predeceased by his second son, Peter James Delormier.

Peter then married Helen Barque and they enjoyed a long marriage of 54 years. He was fortunate to have her children as a part of his life. He loved them as his own and was proud of them. Those children were George Barque (Betty – both deceased), Michael Barque, Carol Delorme (Donald Delorme – deceased), Kathy Glaude (Ronald Glaude), Leon Barque (deceased), and Odette Barque (Louise Russell). They shared 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

His smile and easy laugh was enjoyed by his many friends. He had a passion for fishing and he loved the river. He was an expert on so many things, from making lacrosse sticks, to building homes and then back to his love of fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and decorating for the holidays. His grandchildren will always remember him for his love for KFC, and Wing Hing Chinese.

His favourite thing to do was visit with his family and friends while reminiscing with stories of the good old days. He lived his life to the fullest always making it an adventure.

Fly high with the Eagles, Peter. You will forever be in our hearts and we will always treasure our memories with you.
