Rev. Gerald Poirier
Rev. Gerald Poirier of Cornwall passed peacefully at St-Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the age of 100.
Predeceased by his parents Alexandre and Delima Poirier (née Theoret) and by his five brothers Edgar (Rita), Conrad (Gisele), Donat, Marcel (Shirley) and Lionel (Maureen). He is survived by his sister in law Jeannine Roy-Poirier. A cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews and loved by many relatives and friends.
He was ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1947 in Alexandria. He served at various parishes over the years and in 1955 he became the founding pastor of Ste Therese de Lisieux parish in Cornwall. Once he retired from the parish ministry, he continued to serve other organizations within the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall.
Father Gerald Poirier will be resting in state at Co-Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 300 Montreal Rd, Cornwall on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and from 7:00PM to 9:00PM and on Monday January 22, 2024 from 9:00Am to 10:30AM. Mass of Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell will be celebrated on at Co-Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 300 Montreal Rd, Cornwall on Monday at 11:00AM. Interment will be held at a later date.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie and Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Home East Branch.
In lieu of flowers, mass offerings would be appreciated.
