Richard (Dick) Van Maanen

Dick was born in Cornwall, Ontario and passed away at his home in Ottawa, Ontario after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Wendy and stepson Andrew (Rachel) and granddaughter Raiah. He also leaves behind his sister Ellen Shalley (Darrell) and nieces Valerie, Lana and Christine Henderson. Predeceased by his parents Cornelis (Case) and Jacoba (Coco) Van Maanen. Also survived by relatives in the Netherlands.

A graduate of Guelph University, Dick travelled the world during a successful career in medical diagnostics. He lived in various Canadian cities, the US, China and Belgium, and travelled to countless other parts of the globe during his career. He was a model railroader, dog lover, expert punster, music lover and sports enthusiast, especially the Montreal Canadiens.

Dick was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, and after undergoing surgery and various treatments, he finally lost his battle with his disease. He died at home with his dear wife by his side. Dick and Wendy are truly grateful for the love and support from family, friends and neighbours, who made tough days easier.
