Richard Plourde
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Plourde at 89 years young, following complications of COVID-19. Loved by his second wife Lucille, adored by his five sons and their wives; Michel (Suzanne), Daniel (Joan), Gilles (Sylvie), Claude (Linda), and Yvon (Diane). Larger than life, grand-papa and role model to: Matthieu, Simon, Maryse, Stéphanie, Mélanie, Caroline, Emilie, Alec, and Nicolas. Richard also leaves his brother François.
Also left grieving the loss of this incredible man are Lucille’s children; Lise Filion (Alain), Denis Landry (Julie), Manon Landry and Lucille’s grandchildren Anik, Josée and Christopher, who will miss their grandfather.
Richard was also great-grandfather to 8 children and counting…
Richard was predeceased by his loving first wife Marielle Provost and siblings Réjeanne Mercille, Gérard Plourde, Gisèle Regimbal, Liliane Blouin and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
Papa Richard was best known as the ultimate family man and reputable local « cordonnier ». In his younger years he was often seen running from work to coach his children’s soccer teams, only to return to the Shop working side by side with Marielle for several more hours into the evening. Richard and Marielle enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteered tireless hours to Minor Soccer.
Later in life, he and his second wife Lucille enjoyed following their children and grand-children’s activities, their fridge calendar was always full of engagements such as: baby-sitting, birthdays, graduations and the many soccer games they attended.
Richard exemplified what it was to be a loving husband, an outstanding dad, and the best grandpapa. His love of life and laughter will be forever remembered by family and friends. To know Richard was to love him and he was loved by so many.
He was a hardworking man who perfected his trade at M. Plourde Shoe Repair for over forty years, often heard humming, whistling or singing while working. In his early eighties, Richard was still often seen at the shop, more in the role of Social Director to the many customers and visitors, leaving the actual work to Gilles, the 3rd generation owner.
The family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful caregivers that provided daily care for Dad. Our family will be forever grateful to Wayne Primeau, who for many years through his amazing and loving care, brightened Richard’s days with his wit and good humour. We also wish to thank the Cornwall Hospital Emergency and ICU professionals who looked after Dad until his final moment. We know Richard is now in God’s arms and reunited with all those he loved and who left us, before him.
Though the family has no request for donations, we know Richard appreciated the great efforts made by Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
A private service for the immediate family is being planned for a later-date, COVID permitting.
