Robin MacDonald Casgrain

June 4, 1947 – December 22, 2024

Robin Casgrain of Summerstown died peacefully at Carefor Hospice Cornwall surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents, Hazel (Macdonald) and Noel Casgrain. Beloved husband for almost fifty years of Sheila (Prud’homme), dear father of Peter (Kerry Hannah) and proud grandfather of Cohen and Oliver, his favourite fishing buddies.  Deeply loved by sister, Holly Casgrain-Robertson and brother-in-law, Gary Robertson. Mourned by brother-in-law, Jim Prud’homme (Cheryl West) and former sister-in-law, Sara Catanzaro. Devoted uncle to Sommer Casgrain-Robertson (Jeff Vynckier), Renée DiPonio (Mark) and Celia Bellmore (Mark) and great-uncle to Chloe and Cruz Diponio and Marcus Bellmore.

Robin was well-respected in the community as the owner of Source Wood Products. However, he was best known for his lifelong love of the St. Lawrence River in all its dimensions. He generously shared his knowledge, experience, skill and his ‘catch’, and was recognized and honoured as a true ‘Riverman’. Robin was a man of many interests. Some of his happiest days were spent fishing, hunting, skiing, gardening, cooking and traveling. Being outdoors gave him great joy and he was as knowledgeable about nature as he was about life on the river. He was an unassuming mentor who inspired respect.  Finally, Robin was loving, kind and generous. He was a gentleman. His sense of humour and wit made him a delight to be with. He will live on in our memories and our hearts.

Many thanks to the staff of Hospice and to Dr. R. Menon, Bridgeway Community Palliative Physicians. Thanks also to Robin’s many friends who gave him their love and support throughout his brief illness.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, a donation to Carefor Hospice Cornwall or Salem United Church or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
