Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital. Shirley Ferguson (nee MacLeod) of Maxville, age 90 years. Beloved wife of 60 years of Donald Ferguson. Loving mother of Donna of Ottawa and Norman of Maxville. Dear sister of Melba Shaver (late Don) of Toronto. Shirley is predeceased by her brothers Ian (late Helen), William and Campbell (Lois), by her sister Alma Metcalfe (Ian) and by her parents William and Grace MacLeod (nee Campbell).
Shirley graduated as a nurse in 1952 from the Royal Victoria Hospital, then worked with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Montreal. In 1961 she returned home to Maxville to marry and raise her family, then continued her nursing career at the Maxville Manor until she retired in 1999.
Shirley was a sweet and special lady who was loved by all who knew her. She touched the lives of so many (family, friends, patients and even strangers) with her kindness, patience, generosity and genuine love and caring for others. She will be dearly missed and always lovingly remembered.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 20 Main St. South, Maxville (613-527-2898). As per the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a Visitation on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 12 – 2:45 pm. For those who wish to attend the attendance-controlled visitation, must call the Funeral Home between 9 am – 5 pm, Mon. – Fri., to register your attendance. Masks and physical distancing are required at all gatherings. A private Funeral will be held in the chapel at a later time. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial donations may be made to the Maxville Manor Foundation or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Maxville, Ontario.
