Sister Eva Jane Underhill
UNDERHILL, Sister Eva Jane – R.H.S.J. Sister Eva Underhill died peacefully at the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse in Kingston, ON on May 29, 2019. Sister was 88 years of age of which 68 years were spent in Religious Life. Sister Eva was born in Barnettsville, N.B. the daughter of Hazel Astle and Herman Underhill. Sister is predeceased by her parents and brothers Herman and Reggie. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Murphy, Vera Gillespie, Marie Underhill, Sandra Dann, Lorraine Walls, and Mildred Ewen; and brothers Clarence, Daryl, Leslie and Shirley as well as loving nieces and nephews. Sister Eva entered the Congregation of Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph in Chatham, NB on July 28, 1948 and made her final profession on August 22, 1953 at the R.H.S.J. Motherhouse in Montreal. In 1972 Sister Underhill was missioned to the Hotel Dieu Convent in Cornwall and served as Local Treasurer of that community until 1985. She was then missioned to St. Joseph Provincial House in Amherstview, ON returning to Cornwall in 2000 when she again was appointed Local Treasurer of the Cornwall Community until 2002. Friends & family will be received at Mary, Mother of Compassion Chapel, Sisters of Providence Motherhouse, 1200 Princess Street, Kingston, ON on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Mary, Mother of Compassion Chapel on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Rite of Committal with prayers in St. Mary’s Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
