Susan Mary Carriere
July 16, 1954 ~ July 19, 2020
It is with deep sadness that Susan’s family announces her sudden passing after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the age of 66 years. Predeceased by her husband Bernie in 2013, Susan is fondly remembered by her sons Justin (Lara), Tom (Maria) and Luc (Erin).
Susan was born in Lachine, Quebec to Barbara “Ruth” and William “Bill” MacDonald. She grew up in Cornwall, Ontario where she met Bernie. After graduating from Queen’s University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bernie and Susan were married that same year in Cornwall, Ontario. Susan began her career in the field of nursing and together with Bernie they had three wonderful sons. The family relocated to Estevan, Saskatchewan in 1987 where Susan advanced her nursing career and made many lifelong friends. In 1991, they settled in Lethbridge where she and Bernie continued to raise their three boys and became very involved in the community. As busy as she was, Susan always found time for family. Whether it was an adventure with Bernie, a getaway with her sisters, or the annual MacDonald-Carriere Golf Tournament, she always valued the importance of spending time with those she loved. After her retirement from a successful nursing career in October 2015, Susan travelled extensively, played many rounds of golf and enjoyed walking the numerous trails in Lethbridge’s river bottom. She loved spending time with her friends in book club and in her knitting group and continued to be involved in the community by teaching ESL at the public library. She attended concerts and was always listening to a variety of music. Susan enjoyed sharing time with her sons and their partners as well as her grand-fur-babies. She always had a calm, positive outlook, and was a loving wife, mother, big sister and friend.
Besides her sons, Susan leaves to mourn her brothers Gordon (Jocelyn) MacDonald, David (Maria) MacDonald, Allan MacDonald; sisters Linda MacDonald, Joan (Tom) MacDonald; brothers-in-law Lionel (Michelle) Carriere, Richard (Julie) Carriere, Paul (Danielle) Carriere and numerous nieces and nephews.
Susan was predeceased by her mother Ruth MacDonald; father-in-law Lucien Carriere; brother-in-law Ron Carriere; brother’s partner Devon Stutt; father William MacDonald; sister-in-law Simone Carriere, and mother-in-law Jacqueline Carriere.
A private Funeral Mass will be held on Friday July 24, 2020 at 2:00 pm MST.
