Veronica MacDougall (Koelmans)
MacDOUGALL, Veronica
Veronica Francisca Koelmans MacDougall (1945-2020)
Born in Holland on July 13th, 1945 , travelled on the ship the Volendam to Canada with her parents Broer and Jeltje (VanDenBrink) Koelmans and her six siblings, arriving in Williamstown in the summer of 1951. In Canada, three more siblings would be born making Veronica the third eldest of 10 children.
Veronica was our angel on earth. She had compassion for anything living and believed that all had a God given right to survive and live out its natural life. This extended to her love of plants and her house was full of greenery. She was averse to trimming any growth around the house outside as well.
She loved people and this resulted in her graduating as a Registered nurse in 1966. She started her career in Lachine but moved to Alexandria to nurse first at Glengarry Memorial Hospital and then branched into geriatrics where she worked at The Palace until her retirement. Her senior patients were well loved and her belief that they be dressed and exercised every day made their lives more comfortable. Although she never had children of her own, she was a doting and loving mother to Jean-Claude, Renald, and Mikey Cadieux along with her special needs children Laurie and Anita.
As a devout Catholic, Veronica believed that the Lord would see her through life with ease. No matter what the situation or difficulty, she knew that He would guide her and pull her up. When Margaret needed a bone marrow transplant, Veronica was the donor. She always felt the need to help people and never complained or criticized. She adored her dogs and cats and never refused if someone asked her to take in an animal that needed a home.
Predeceased by her sister Margaret, her parents, and Laurie, Veronica is survived by her loving husband Ranald MacDougall of Alexandria and her siblings, Jenny Wheeler (Daniel, deceased), Regina Blohon (Rudy), Stuart Koelmans (Claire Larkin), Wilfrieda Deschamps(Fred), Walter Koelmans (Rosvida Fredericks), Mary McCuaig, Audrey Wannamaker (Paul), and John Koelmans (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the SDG Branch of the SPCA or to the Cancer Society.
