SOUTH DUNDAS – School enrolment has increased at both local English-language school boards in the region.
The Upper Canada District School Board (English-Public) reported an increase well over what officials had projected for the 2021-22 school year last spring.
The board added 867 students this fall across its elementary, secondary, and secondary-alternative divisions.
Most of the new enrolments were at the elementary division where 788 new students joined UCDSB schools.
The board attributed some of the new students to families that did not register for junior kindergarten due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students returning from homeschooling, also due to the pandemic, make up another part of the new students at the board.
The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario reported an increase of 104 students over its original estimated enrolment for the 2021-22 school year. No reasons were given for the increase over the original projections.
