‘A Symphony of Colour’: The lyrical paintings of Joan Levy Earle

CORNWALL, Ontario – Is retirement an option for creative artists?

It’s a question without a clear answer for Cornwall painter-author Joan Levy Earle.

The 71-year-old’s ‘A Symphony of Colour’ 22-piece exhibit kicked off at the Aultsville Theatre with a private vernissage on Friday, followed by public viewings on Saturday and Sunday. Her first Cornwall exhibit in a decade.

“I’ve enjoyed sharing my work, pleased with the response, and I sold some paintings. But it was most important to see so many patrons. It was a reunion,” said Levy Earle. “Whether I’d do this again…I’m not sure. I’d have to have the energy. It’s very tiring and difficult to put shows together as you get older. It’s much easier having people visit the studio. But I do like this venue and I’m very pleased with the cooperation of St. Lawrence College and Your Arts Council of Cornwall & The Counties.”

In 1977, Levy Earle cut the ribbon to her first art studio above the Bank of Montreal on Montreal Road, and her fourth creative space in 2014. Levy Earle and Cornwall artist Alyssa Blais opened the doors to the new studio (located at 812 Pitt Street, unit 41) for the Apples and Art Tour in September.
