Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French at the 1862 Battle of Puebla.

Parties started to form when U.S. residing Mexicans heard about the results of the battle.

Since then, Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican culture, where one of the most popular ways to partake is eating Mexican food. Other popular Cinco de Mayo activities are drinking or partying and reading up on Mexican history.
