April 3rd is the start of Community Garden Week, a week to celebrate the benefits of gardening as a community.

After ringing in Spring with the Transition Cornwall+ Transition into Spring event, everyone has seeds and gardening on the brain.

Cornwall has two popular community gardens, the Eco Park off Race Street and one located off Brookdale.

“The Agape Centre is thrilled to now be organizing the Cornwall Community Gardens!” they shared a recent Facebook post, “We look forward to meeting all the current gardeners and welcoming new enthusiasts to enjoy their first season with us!”

Some benefits of community gardens include:

  • sharing costs
  • meeting neighbours
  • educating kids about growing food
  • reducing waste
  • perfect for urban families who don’t have green space
  • saving money on groceries

What other communities nearby have community gardens? What do you think makes a successful community garden? Let us know in the comments section!
