CORNWALL, Ontario – The Art Gallery (TAG) of Cornwall started the New Year off with a blank canvas at its annual general meeting, on Tuesday evening.
With the resignation of the entire past board of directors, members in attendance were charged with filling the seats.
The gallery’s executive director, Sylvie Lizotte, said that they were looking for business focused people who will help promote the gallery, recruit new members and create a long-term plan.
Among other tasks, the new board will be in charge of re-writing the by-laws in order to conform to the new Ontario corporation act.
Lizotte is looking forward to a “fresh new group, a good working team.”
The new elected board is as follows: Roland Besner, Eric Covington, Brian Long, Greg Kielec, Marc Pilotte, Mary Ann Hug and Jamie Gilcig. The election of the officers will take place at their first meeting, on January 19.
TAG is presently accepting entries, until Saturday, January 10, for its upcoming annual juried exhibit. Live jurying will be held on Sunday, January 11, from 1pm, until completion. Jurors for the event are Jacqueline Milner and Karl Schutt.
“So far we’ve received a variety of mediums including, fabric, acrylic, and collage,” said Lizotte, including an impressive collage of Mark Twain (pictured) made from strips of typewritten words.
“And it’s only just started, last year there were 160 submissions. There is no limit to the number of pieces chosen for exhibit,” she said.
Open to all artists, in any medium, except photography, the top five will be announced at the awards ceremony, to be held on Saturday, January 31, 2pm.
The public is welcome to vote for the People’s Choice, until March 1st.
Coming up, at the end of March, TAG will host a glass art exhibit featuring the work of local, national and international artists, including members of the Priest Mill Glass Works, in Alexandria.
There will also be live demonstrations.
