CORNWALL, Ontario – Four of Canada’s top comedians are bringing their stand-up show to downtown Cornwall tonight.

The ‘My Jokes Are Up Here’ showcase is taking place at Deke & Squeaks Bar at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.

The show features four headlining comics: Jen Grant, Christina Walkinshaw, Rebecca Kohler, and Erica Sigurdson. And one of them has roots right here in the Seaway City.

“Sometimes in comedy you don’t get to choose who you work with. These are all really good friends of mine. It’s going to be fun,” said Grant. “It’s also cool to show and celebrate strong female headliners, because there are some misconceptions.”

The Cornwall-born, Toronto entertainer has performed at every major comedy festival in the country, including the Just for Laughs Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival, and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. She has also played major comedy clubs with such legends as Jim Bruer, Robert Klein, and Louis C.K. In addition, Grant released her debut CD called ‘Nobody Likes Your Homemade Wine’ in spring 2014, which is available for download on www.jengrant.com or iTunes.

But despite her impressive resume and strong act, she still has to remind hecklers that sexual harassment at comedy shows is no joke.

On May 19, Grant posted an entry on her blog about a heckling incident at a printing awards event that ended with her leaving the stage in tears in the middle of her gig.

“The show’s title is just a coincidence really,” she said. “But I think it’s great that it’s reinforcing a message to not objectify female comics – or women in general. We just want to be seen as comics; not female comics.”

Grant noted that it’s unusual to see the talented foursome together in one show. This is the first time the ‘My Jokes Are Up Here’ lineup takes the stage.

Christina Walkinshaw: The Toronto comic’s half-hour comedy special often repeats in the middle of the night while you’re sleeping. She was nominated for Best Female Stand Up Comic in the 2012 Canadian Comedy Awards. She lost. In general, Walkinshaw chooses to avoid mushrooms and marriage. You can follow her on Twitter @walkinsauce.

Rebecca Kohler: in 2013, she won best live taping at the Canadian Comedy awards. She was also voted best female stand-up by Best of Toronto Reader’ Choice poll.

Erica Sigurdson: Best known for her razor wit on CBC Radio’s smash hit The Debaters, Sigurdson is in high demand for radio, television and live appearances.
