CORNWALL, Ontario – Our Beautiful Obsession (OBO) Studios is unleashing the creative force of 29 artists at The Art Gallery (TAG) Cornwall this month.
OBO Studios’ new group exhibit titled Small Wonders opened on August 1 and it runs until the 29th at the downtown gallery located at 168 Pitt Street.
The Cornwall art studio, run by Emily MacLeod and Tracy-Lynn Chisholm, will be at TAG in full force on Saturday, August 9 during an open reception and artist meet-and-greet at 2p.m.
Local artists have been masterfully crafting dozens of pieces for over a year, each interpreting the show’s theme on their own terms.
“The results are as varied as the colourful artists,” said MacLeod.
From large canvases of chic martini glasses to mini still life, from serene Buddha to belly dancer, a single feather to a shoe, and a wild collection of intricately beaded mosaic eyes that you have to see to believe.
A recent grant from Your Arts Council (YAC) Cornwall & the Counties helped TAG really put area artists in the spotlight.
“We’re thrilled with the space. The new lighting system at TAG is spectacular,” said Chisholm. “Thanks to YAC, it not only elevates the elegant ambiance, it genuinely showcases every inch of art.”
The show will also be graced with a visit and artwork from Ana Lucia de Wilson. The spirited oil painter resided in Cornwall for a couple years before returning with her family to her native Guatemala.
This is OBO’s first group exhibit at TAG. The artistic merger feels like a perfect fit since the studio is located further down the block at 44 Pitt Street.
In July, Focus Art’s ‘Summer in the City’ exhibition adorned the walls at TAG. The local association’s 77 original mixed media pieces wowed spectators.
