An Emotional Farewell to the United Way Gala

The 12th and final United Way Centraide SDG Holiday Gala was held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Cornwall Civic Complex. Thissignature event, which raised over $500,000 for local initiatives over itshistory, brought the community together for an evening of gourmet food,auctions, and live music by The Chesterfields.

The event, presented by Pommier Jewellers and organized by adedicated volunteer committee led by Karen and Ray Brunet, marked the end of an era. Attendees enjoyed wine and beer tastings, a dessert bar, and a lively atmosphere as Gerard McDonald, Chair of the United Way Board of Directors, emceed the evening.

Juliette Labossière, Executive Director of United Way Centraide SDG, reflected on the gala’s legacy and the challenges ahead. “It’s a difficult farewell. We’re going to miss the generosity and energy in this room, but we’re also excited about exploring new opportunities to continue supporting the community,” she said. Labossière highlighted the growing challenges posed by rising living costs, adding, “Events like this are more important than ever to help us continue our work.”

Nicholas Seguin of The Chesterfields, a former United Way campaign chair, shared his gratitude for being part of the event. “It’s bittersweet to see this tradition come to an end, but I’m excited to see what new opportunities emerge. It’s always an honour to play a role in supportingsuch an important cause,” he said.

With VIP seats sold out and the dance floor packed, the night ended with a sense of accomplishment and hope for future initiatives tosupport vital programs in Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Cornwall, and Akwesasne.
