Build an appetite for Food Fest, tow a truck
Beyond 21 Executive Director Jane McLaren and People Connector Tammy Hood get ready for the first ever Truck Tow happening this year at Cornwall Food Fest (Nick Seebruch/ Seaway News).

CORNWALL, Ontario – Beyond 21 has added a new contest to their signature summer event, Food Fest. They are challenging teams to come together and meet a heavy challenge, towing a pump truck from the Cornwall Fire Services.

Teams of up-to 10 are welcome to participate and do their best to pull a 46,000 lbs truck 100 ft.

The entry team for the event is $100 per teammate.

Teams will be competing in three categories, fastest pull, most charitable, and Best Team Spirit (costumes encouraged).

The Truck Tow will take place at the fourth annual Cornwall Food Fest on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019. The Truck Tow will take place along First St. from Augustus St. to Pitt St. Food Fest will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the Truck Tow starting at 2 p.m.

“It is very symbolic to me,” said Jane McLaren, Executive Director of Beyond 21.”We work with people with developmental challenges and we are asking people now, to work together as a team to overcome a challenge of their own. That’s what we’re asking people to do with our participants at Beyond 21; to look at a person and not the challenges.”

There is already interest from the Cornwall Fire Service and from the Cornwall Police Service to enter teams into the competition.

For more information on how to enter, visit the Beyond 21 website.
