SUMMERSTOWN:  Glengarry native Annie DeRochie with friend Meg Mueller of Montreal, will be representing Canada in Japan at the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) in August 2023.

“This is a great honour” says Annie DeRochie “I’m so excited to be representing Canada in this almost *Olympic* style cosplay event and competition.  It has been a dream of mine for years which has now come to fruition.”

The team constructed their costumes and props as well as produced a two and a half minute skit.  They were judged on the accuracy and quality of the costume & skit which were based on the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

With Annie as the titular character, Madoka (in pink) and Meg as her best friend, Homura (in purple), they won first place with the honours of representing Canada.

The Canadian selections took place during Montreal’s Otakuton event last weekend where they were crowned Team Canada.

Annie is a graduate of Fanshawe College’s Fashion Design as well as Costume Design program and is presently working at Bonita Bold in Brockville, Ontario as a fashion designer.  Her passion over the past 12 years has been in costuming where she is a Master in cosplay.

The World Cosplay Summit is an annual event held in Nagoya, Japan since 2003. It is a celebration of cosplay and culture spanning multiple days and climaxing in a grand Championship where one team representing their country will be crowned the World Cosplay Summit Champion.
