CORNWALL, Ontario – Ivan Contreras, Owner of Tampico’s authentic Mexican restaurant, announced Wednesday, June 19 that the beloved dining spot will be closing its doors indefinitely to begin a new journey.

The popular location announced in February of this year on social media that it was closed until further notice, leaving community members to question if it would reopen, with several posting on the restaurant’s social media on a regular basis. The restaurant originally opened in 2013 on Pitt. St.

Now, Contreras, who is originally from Tampico, Mexico, plans to launch a Tampico’s catering service.

“Thank you for all your support over the last six years. I’ve met a lot of amazing people and made many friends. Unfortunately, Tampico’s will not be opening as a take out restaurant. Instead, I will be opening Tampico’s Catering Service,” read a statement from Contreras on Tampico’s Facebook page.

The statement advised that anyone with gift cards reach out to Contreras via social media. To visit the Tampico’s Facebook page, click the link here.

“I am very excited about this new adventure,” said Contreras in his post.
