The 2025 Dalkeith Winter Carnival offered lots of fun for attendees on a chilly January weekend. The event is put on by the Dalkeith Recreation Association, with the help and support of many volunteers for the two-day event.
The weekend hosted a Disney-themed parade, shinny hockey, a magic show and the MacLeod Fiddlers as well as a pig roast dinner to conclude the carnival weekend. The carnival has been a long-standing winter event, only pausing during the pandemic when gatherings were not permitted.
Attendees to the carnival cheered on exciting hockey played by some of the new Glengarry Brigade team – the amalgamation of the Char-Lan Rebels and the Alexandria Glens hockey teams. The equestrian community put on a great show at the parade, with horses decked out as Dalmatians while Cruella de Ville searched for more puppies. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were transported by a cart and pony and there was even a blond Elsa horse and dark brown pony portraying Anna from Disney’s Frozen movie.
Prizes were awarded for those that participated in the parade. In the float division, the winners were: Arneaud & Julian; Countryside Dental presented by the Macleod Family; the 101 Dalmatians with Mackenzie and Linda Kunz, Kristen and Keith Macrae, and Josie Maclennan; and two December born baby calves presented by Sandy Woosey and Sherri Poe. In the horse category, winners were: Elsa and Anna from Frozen, a.k.a. Magic and Sprocket; Olivia and Shaelyn Macleod; and Wayne Lothian and Lynn Macnab with Skor the hitch pony.
