CORNWALL, Ontario – Christmas cheer came alive at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, for the Santa Claus Breakfast, organized and facilitated by the Optimist Club. Hundreds of families packed the salon for a delicious traditional breakfast. But, it wasn’t just about the food, as the lineup to greet everyone’s favourite gift giver extended across the room. Children and their parents had the opportunity to get their photo taken with the man himself.

The event has occurred for a number of years, and is a traditional part of Christmas celebrations for many Cornwall residents. Organizers for the breakfast estimated that this year brought in the highest number of guests ever.

“It’s a fantastic day, we’re up on numbers, it’s the most we’ve ever had. We think we’ve served about 800 people,” said Terry Muir, Optimist Club member and organizer for the day’s event. “They’re enjoying it, there are lots of smiles. We just had a sing along with Mrs. Clause.”

The event ran from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., providing families with the perfect opportunity to get in the festive spirit in preparation for the Santa Clause Parade, held later in the day.

Optimist Club members and volunteers help make the day possible, cooking and serving eggs, bacon, and more for a large volume of families.

“We got a great group of volunteers,” said Muir. “It’s the Optimist Club that puts the breakfast on…they’re here with smiles on and just plugging away.”
