CORNWALL, Ontario – As students filed into the gymnasium where they would soon enjoy a Christmas luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 18, their excitement could be heard booming throughout the halls and seen in their vigorous waves to Santa, who was also in attendance.

“Our Christmas celebration is a fantastic representation of our community coming out for a meal, and that’s what it is all about: being together,” said Principal Ken MacDonald, who was happy to see students and staff enjoying themselves. “Everyone looks forward to it…everyone’s very happy and it’s not often you have everyone all in the same room at the same time.”

Once John Cameron, Director of Education for the CDSBEO, said Grace, attendees helped themselves to a hearty meal of turkey, potatoes, gravy, cranberries and more. The efforts of getting the kindly donated food onto the table can be attributed to the success of the Parent Council as well as the Knights of Columbus.

“This year we had more parents on the Council, so we are building up, and planning different activities for the kids,” said Parent Council member Ellie Fuller.

The Christmas luncheon was started in 2018 when Immaculate Conception Catholic School amalgamated with St. Peter Catholic School and students have been looking forward to the occasion every since.

Many students wore their snow pants, having just returned inside from playing in the fresh falling snow, while others were decked out in their best Christmas looks, paying homage to some favourite holiday movies like The Grinch. Staff members also made an effort to sport their best Christmas wear, truly getting into the holiday spirit.
